CRAXTON MEMORIAL TRUST AWARDS 2009The Trust was established in 1971 in memory of the eminent pianist and teacher, Harold Craxton, Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music. It also commemorates his wife Essie and his daughter Janet Craxton, the distinguished oboist who was also a Professor at the Royal Academy. Its object is to help young, talented musicians in need. Individual awards of up to £800 are granted every two years following an audition. The Trust is advised by a committee of distinguished musicians, including Professor Philip Jenkins, Professor Quentin Poole, Professor Frank Wibaut and Nona Liddell . CONDITIONS FOR ENTRYApplications are invited from highly talented musicians who are completing their studies or embarking on their professional career and who are in need of financial assistance. There is no restriction on nationality. Awards are currently made to pianists and instrumentalists, excluding the players of organ, harpsichord and percussion. The age limit is 25 years at the closing date which is the 31st January 2009. Applications must be supported by two references from highly qualified, professional musicians. These references must be sent direct to the administrator by the referees and must arrive by the closing date 31st January 2009. Applications will not be considered unless all these conditions are met. Final selection will be by auditions to be held at the Craxton Studios, 14, Kidderpore Avenue, London NW3 7SU on 16/17/ 18 May 2009. An accompanist will be provided. The Trust regrets that it cannot reimburse travel expenses to attend the auditions. Results of the auditions are notified to applicants approximately four weeks after the auditions. Acceptance of the applications and the awarding of grants is at the discretion of the committee and trustees. No reasons are given for their decisions. |
